    In Korean literature, the sea has been problematized as a literary object that represents a desire for modernization or a sense of frustration in modern literature. Afterwards, the sea was rediscovered in the works of writers of the 1960s, when thoughts about modernity were most intense.
    As the relationship between the self and society has emerged as an important issue since the 1960s, the subject of conflict between the individual and society is constantly dealt with in 4¡¤19 generation of literature. Lee Chung-joon was also a menber of the 4¡¤19 generation and showed his awareness of problem regarding this in his literature.
    Meanwhile, Lee Cheong-jun recreated the space of the sea or island in his story from his early works. The four short stories(People of The Sea, Shipwreck, The Door of Time, Island) discussed in this article, it can be said that it is texts that shows the protagonist¡¯s will to know about the story of the sea or its reality and the desire to confirm it. In these texts, the sea is connected not only to the internal movements such as the main character¡¯s imagination or dream, but also to the issues of physical mobility and immobility, revealing issues of discourse and subject according to changes of the times. This paper analyzes that the desire and historical consciousness of the 4.19 generation can be reflected in the narrative related to the sea in Lee Cheong-jun's short stories, and examines that the issues of sea and (im)mobility are related to the formation of subject.
