Eochon-Shimeunkwang(1487-1540) is the writer in the middle of the Choseon Dynasty, especially during the reign of Jungjong in the first half term of the 16th- century. He is a also representative politician. Eochon passed the civil service examination in 1513 and then successively filled various government posts.
The focus of this paper is on poetry about death like Mansi(��Ԋ). Eochon 's Mansi(��Ԋ) is important to in Chinese poetry history. Because he was a prolific author of poet and left excellent works that have remarkable poetic imagery. The tradition of Mansi creation begins with Kimbusik in Korean traditional literary history. Writing Mansi had become a custom for paying one's respects to the souls of the dead since the 17th-century. The various tendency of creation had been developed during this time period. Eochon played a role of bridge which establish a link between late Koryo and the second half of the Chosun Dynasty.
��Eochonjib��, the collection of his works run 60 pieces of Mansi(��Ԋ). He was the most abundant production in writing of Mansi(��Ԋ) in 15-16century. His poems were excellent in literary value as well as quantity. They are outstanding in mourning death and expressing sorrow.
There are many long pieces in Eochonjib's Mansi(��Ԋ). We can find even poems that are well-organized structure of narrative in his works. Probably these poems must have lengthen out because he had a strong hunger to express the lamentation over the dead. The dead are his loved ones such as his family, friends, and so on.
In short, I hope that this paper have shed new light on Eochon's status in Chinese poetry history in Korea.
