    This study was begun from an expectation that traditional literature, which is facing existential crisis both in literary research and literature education, can find a way toward coexistence by overcoming the severance between literary study and educational study. Accordingly, <Banghanrim-Jeon>, which has recently been actively discussed in areas of literary education and literary research while its educational meaning is not being properly explored because of the lacking exchange of study results and critical awareness, was chosen to be studied in terms of its educational implication.
    Before exploring it`s educational value, it was examined that, among the requirements for 'competence-based education' on which current education system put emphasis, ability to enjoy culture and arts, ability to communicate, and ability to think critically and creatively are the ones that can be grafted to literature education. And for exploring its educational value, a necessity of a new and extended reading of <Banghanrim-Jeon> -from a viewpoint differ from literary research- was argued for. With an analysis on the basis of these premises, <Banghanrim-Jeon> could be seen as educationally valuable because it is a text with which learners can reflect the diversity of life, and experience communication with others on the basis of sympathy, through literature.
