This paper pursues the conventional concept of film, ��poetic realism�� not only in the theoretical base but with V��ctor Erice's films, specially his <El esp��ritu de la colmena>. In other words, the term ��poetic realism�� will be discussed by the various theoretical concepts and the style of Erice will be analysed, based on the same concept. For 30 years, Erice directed only three films but took the considerable reactions from audience and positive comments from critics. Although the first work of young director, <El esp��ritu de la colmena>, represented in 1973, attracted special interest and reviews because of poetic and connotative structure.
In <El esp��ritu de la colmena> the audience see the family that live in a rural village of Castilla of 1940, after the Spanish Civil War. In this work, Erice throws a variety of formal and practical experiments, which correspond with the film theory of Andr�� Bazin.
Erce's work reflects Bazin's three topics through the formal representation: 1) relation between film and painting, 2) relation between film and photography and 3) filmic realism.
His poetic tendency is related with the situation of Spain's Franco dictatorship and with the european mainstream style in the decade of sixties, ��Nouvell Vague�� based on the Bazin's theory to accommodate the active opposition of Hollywood commerciallyoriented films.
Erice's poetic realism is formed with the rhythmic montage, the crossing structure of light(fiction) and darkness(reality), and the visual framing like paintings.
