    Critical mathematics education is a philosophy of mathematics education, researched actively in diverse areas of mathematics education. It is researched mainly by Western researchers. Though several researches are conducted in Korea with or without clarifying critical mathematics education, theoretical studies are few. This paper look into critical mathematics education developed by Ole Skovsmose. He asks whether 'mathemacy' can play a similar role in critical mathematics education as 'literacy' does in critical education. In his perspective, mathematics education can be critical through cultivating critical competence with mathematics.
