The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the key words in the movie, The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro by Hayao Miyazaki, interrogating the depiction of ��The Restored Garden�� and women. Unlike his previous works which usually took place in ��Utopia,�� this movie was set in ��The Paradise��. The paradise is like the paradise of gods, the place to relax and get comforts to the exhausted body.
It can be seemed that the paradise in the movie, also can be called as ��Boknakwon,�� shares something in common with the paradise depicted in John Milton��s Paradise Regained. As noted in Jungian psychology, the symbol of paradise, ��Aburayama�� is described as the feminine space. It is surrounded by water and the name of the leader, Yubaba and Chihiro are deeply related with water. Also, even though Chihiro is young, she is willing to sacrifice herself to others. This allows us to see the emphasis of ��motherhood�� like other female characters in Hayao Miyazaki's other works.
