This study examines the way of perception of 4¡¤19 Revolution in literature and critics in the 1960's, focusing on the relation of 4¡¤19 Revolution and 4¡¤19 Generation. In the critical writings of 4¡¤19 Generation, 4¡¤19 Revolution was determined by ex post signification which intend to erase it's eventness and to take it into the system of language and knowledge. That system of language and knowledge is constructed by the key words of self-consciousness and liberty which embodied by learning of foreign literature and thought. And that re-signified 4¡¤19 Revolution functions as a point de subjectivation which confirm their generation-identity and their sense of belong together of 4¡¤19 Generation. Finally, 4¡¤19 Generation separate 'politics' from 4¡¤19 Revolution and re-signify that as subjective mentality of 'self-confidence and the spiritual source of cultural symbolic capital the 'knowledge and language'.
In the novels of 4¡¤19 Generation, 4¡¤19 Revolution is recollected as an momentary truth which passed away now, and as possibility of youth for a while. That is what can't remember because it passed away already, and even what have to pretend as if they do not know. That way of representations of 4¡¤19 Revolution ventilate expressions of then intellectuals who accept the realities after 5¡¤16 coup d'¨¦tat as never-failing situation and adapt to that realities. This is the logics which exclude the possibility of duration of 4¡¤19 Revolution and found the existence value and existence way of their generation's literature on the impossibility of that duration. Therefore for them, 4¡¤19 as a political event was not suppressed by 5¡¤16. All the more, that was suppressed by their logics of lives and literature which adapt the realitiy after 5¡¤16 coup d'¨¦tat as never-failing conditions of their life and close the possibility of the duration of 4¡¤19 Revolution as a political event. This is the way of existence and non-existence of 4¡¤19 Revolution in literature and critics of 4¡¤19 Generation. In their conscious and literature, that way of existence of 4¡¤19 Revolution is closely related to their political positions constructions of literal identity, and self-construction of literal subject based on cultural liberalism.
