The Effect of the Degree of Agreement between the Self on SNS and Actual Self on Life Satisfaction

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that influence the discrepancy between real self and SNS self, and for this purpose, a survey was conducted among university students and general public who use Twitter and Facebook. A total of 483 respondents were surveyed and the data were analyzed using the SPSS 27.0 program. The results confirmed the possibility that there is a gap between the image of the self that SNS users want to present on SNS and their actual self, which may affect the degree of congruence between these two selves. In addition, social isolation and suicidal attitudes were found to have a negative effect on life satisfaction. Higher levels of social isolation and suicidal attitudes are associated with lower levels of life satisfaction, suggesting that measures to reduce social isolation and suicidal attitudes are needed. Thus, this study is significant in that it proposes a holistic understanding of SNS self-concordance and its outcome variables.
