    The ability to properly recognize cultural diversity or cultural diversity competency (CDC) is becoming more and more important for global citizens. In order to improve cultural diversity competency, it is necessary to understand its levels; however, only a few valid instruments measure the cultural diversity competency of university students.
    Therefore, this study is designed to validate an instrument for measuring cultural diversity competency of university students. A total of 24 items, constituting the cognitive, affective, and behavioral domains, were constructed. A total of 536 students from nine universities across the country participated in the online survey. Major analyses were based on a Rasch measurement model using Winsteps program. Four areas of validityโ€”construct-, content-, practical-, and criterion-related validityโ€”were analyzed. Results of the analyses showed that the construct validity in the three (cognitive, affective, behavioral) domains was secured with 6, 4, and 8 items respectively. The technical aspects of content-related validity in each domain with respective items were good, but the items were distributed along the mean CDC level of the survey respondents. Gender-related Differential Item Functioning (DIF) was observed in cognitive and behavioral domains, but two salient DIF in cognitive and behavior items required attention in using the scales. In addition, correlation analyses were conducted between cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects of cultural diversity competency and creativity-convergence-related competency as criterion-related validity evidence. The correlations between cognitive and behavioral aspects of cultural diversity competency with creativity-convergence-related competency were high(r >0.5), which is evidence of criterion-related validity. However, to utilize the discarded 6 items, revision is needed that fits the CDC level of the respondents.
