This study, though with some limitations, approached Confucius's view on food from the perspective of the study of Chinese classics through his food-related comments found in the entire book of ��the Analects of Confucius�� as well as his direct attitude towards food that can be seen in ��Xi��ngd��ng�� of the book.
From the 21st century's perspective, Confucius's opinion about food can be evaluated as follows.
First, Confucius paid attention to health and hygiene. He tried to heed and practice good eating habits in his daily life. This attitude of regimen even developed into preservation of health as a result.
Second, Confucius pursued moderation and harmony. It is not hard to imagine a pious ascetic through his eating habit.
Third, Confucius also looks like a gourmet in some ways. However in reality he understood the coexistence and conflict of food and utilized them as well in his daily life.
Fourth, Confucius was not concerned only with the spiritual ideal world. He also had a great interest in the real world, which can be well apprehended especially through his stance towards food.
