SeonWonJeJunJipDoSeo is the introductory book for an about 100 volume collection, SeonWonJeJunJip, which Gyubong Jongmil (780��841) of the Tang Dynasty edited.
The book was introduced to Goryeo in the late 10th Century or in the early 11th Century. It had a great influence on the Bojo Jinul's (1158��1210) philosophy in 12th Century. It is assumed that it was circulated amomg Zen monks who inherited Jinul's Zen philosophy. The book drawn attention once again by Byeoksong Jieom (1464��1534) in Joseon Dynasty.
Byeoksong Jieom insisted to guide callow Zen monks through the Buddhist scriptures, such as not only DoSeo but also GoBongHawSangSeonYo, DaeHaeBo- GakSeonSaSeo, BopJipByorHaengRokJulYoByongIpSaGi, while he was active in Mt. Jiri by late in his life. He succeeded the Zen ascetic practices of Bojo Jinul who insisted to harmonize then Zen with Doctrinism. These documents was accepted as a learning collection(Sajip) among his successors. There are 26 different types of the existing printed editions. Among them, one book edition published in 1579 at the Sinhung temple of Gyeongsang province and another book edition published in Hwa-arm temple in 1493 at the Jeolla province form a main pedigree.
