    The purpose of this study were to examine the mediating effects of creative self-efficacy in the re- lationship between musical instrument learning experience and creative growth mindset among Chinese adolescents, and to analyze whether the mediating effects of creative self-efficacy on musical instrument learning experience on creative mindset vary by gender and grade level. The data were processed through descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and mod- erated regression analysis using PROCESS macro (version 4.0), with 697 middle and high school stu- dents of both genders (311 males and 386 females). The findings are as follows; (1) The effect of mu- sical instrument learning experience on creative growth mindset is statically mediated by creative self-efficacy. (2) The mediating effect of creative self-efficacy on creative growth mindset is greater for high school students than for middle school students. (3) The mediating effect of creative self-ef- ficacy on creative growth mindset is greater for male students than for female students. These results suggest that in order to improve the creative growth mindset of middle school boys and girls in China through music education, teaching and learning strategies that provide rich and diverse instrumental learning experiences and promote creative self-efficacy for musical problem solving are needed.
