This study presents an investigation into "Cheongryonggainhanchangga" in Sosurok, which contains a total of 14 texts. The study specially focuses on thistext because its old interpretations appear to have many problems.
Its old interpretations commonly agree that the text was a letter sent by a 20-year-old Gisaeng in Cheongju to a 29-year-old Seondal. In the letter, the Gisaeng asks the Seondal to accept her. The study first examined the identities of Cheongryonggain and Seondal to determine the validity of the old interpretations and found that Cheongryonggain was not a Gisaeng in Cheongju as the old interpretations insisted, but Sadang based in Anseong. The old interpretations speculated that Seondal was a nobleman, but the study found that he was highly likely to have been a master singer of Pansori from a noble family. Based on these identities of Cheongryonggain and Seondal, the nature of "Cheongryonggainhanchangga" and "Dapira" was analyzed. The results from this analysis show that the essence of the two letters was not a proposal of marriage and rejection of the same, but the sharing of the pain of parting and the exchange of affectionate emotions of love.
While conducting research on "Cheongryonggainhanchangga", the investigator felt there were problems with the old approach to Sosurok containing the work. The study thus proposes that the book was not a compilation of statements by women, but a male author's elaborate edition or creation and calls for the resumption of further research on the book.
