This article adopts the theory of historical context to explore why, at the beginning of martial arts film production, local film industries coincidentally chose female heroes as the main characters. By digging into Shanghai newspapers during the Republic of China period and consulting relevant biographies of filmmakers, it was found that the reasons for the emergence of embryonic female xia films were related to multiple factors such as filmmakers catering to the prevailing feminist trend of the time, reflecting on the "non filial" trend that came from the west, their own desire to educate people through film, and the inherent commercial attributes of the films.????
