Yuseo is a work that records a wide range of interests in all things and phenomena in society, and the knowledge needed for recording is acquired through various literature and experience. This thesis targeted Cho Jae-sam's ��Songnamjabji�� to look at the pattern of quoting Zhi-guai Stories while citing various literature in Late Joseon Yuseo. Zhi-guai Stories is a useful literature to utilize the knowledge required in Yuseo, as it describes strange things in a simple sentence format. In particular, literature knowledge generated through extensive reading experience is a big part of ��Songnamjabji��, of which Zhi-guai Stories constitutes a major citation.
��Songnamjabji�� records 33 different patterns of the varied mode of change and culture of all things in the universe and of human life. At this time, the supernatural and mysterious stories recorded in Zhi-guai Stories provide information in each category of ��Songnamjabji�� with a single knowledge. The image of Legendary country and immigrants are recorded as information on foreign regions, while strange-shaped beasts are recorded as foreign things. In addition, through the records of the Geographic Museum, the identity of the name of the object is revealed, while Taoist magic and strange stories are recorded as the subject of a novel story.
In Yuseo, the cited literature is the source of information provision as a reference for the review, while the content of the collected literature is the data that can identify and preserve lost records. In particular, the Utilization of Zhi-guai Stories in Yuseo goes beyond the role of mere citation, and can trace the course of the historical development of the novel, and the contents of Zhi-guai Stories itself become the main narrative material. In ��Songnamjabji��, the Zhi-guai Stories��s novel is used in various ways, including ��Shanhaijing��, contemporary novels such as ��Youyangjabjo��, and literary novels of the Ming Dynasty. It provides a way to identify the characteristics of Zhi-guai Stories by period, and can be evaluated as important in the study of the novel history.
