This study investigated acquisition of Korean numeral classifiers by English-speaking learners of Korean focusing on the input frequency effect on the acquisition order of numeral classifiers. Using an elicited imitation task, this study measured Korean L2 learners¡¯ implicit knowledge of numeral classifiers in order to find any relationship between acquisition order and input frequency rank order. The results from an experiment with 52 English-speaking learners of Korean and Korean native speakers using 21 numeral classifiers found (i) that the learners¡¯ knowledge of numeral classifiers increased as their overall oral proficiency improved, (ii) that the numeral classifiers were acquired in the order of ¡®?>??>?>?>?>??>??>?>??>?>?>??>??>?>?>?>?>?>?(??)>?>?(???)¡¯ and (iii) that there was a statistically significant correlation between the acquisition order and the input frequency rank order (r = - 0.48, p < .05). More study is needed in order to verify the delayed acquisition of ¡®?¡¯ which is one of the most frequently used numeral classifiers with the general classifier ¡®?¡¯ in Korean.
