This article aims to explain the process, in which the Yangban, the peasantry, and the intellectuals in the Kimchon City used the sul-durumi differently, through the trickle-down theory of Georg Simmel. At first the high Yangban introduce the new cultural factor and reginal yangban imitate it, at last the normal peasantry accept this factor by imitation. Specially the high
yangban introduced the Japanes Sake as the wedding ceremony alkohol in the 30es. At that time the Japanese sake was very expensive, nobody except the high yangban could buy it. So the regional yangban choose only the bottle instead of the suldurumi. In the 50es they could afford the Sake. At this piont the yangban will draw a distinction from the peasantry. This theory
is acceptable in the explanation of the change of the value of the sul-durumi.
The sul-durumi is not used in everyday life any more from the 70es. The peasantry used the sul-durumi and the glass bottle for Japanese sake in the 60es. Under the peasants there was the differency. Only the wealthy peasants could imitate the yangban and afford it, but the poor could not prepare the wedding ceremony at all.
The peasantry did not only imitate the culture of yangban, but they maintained also their culture of food exchange in the wedding ceremony, nalbagi-food, and the yangban imitated this culture. The regional yangban were not so wealthy that they could not the original wedding food, Keunsang. They gave up this way of food exchage, choose the way of nalbagi food exchage. This means that the imitation process does not go in one direction in the folk culture. There was a reverse imitation process.
