With the help of information technology Cult films can also be seen as a genre of films. Within genre films, we can observe repetitive sequences that are almost identical. These recurring elements can be broadly categorized into three units, ranging from significant narrative chunks to minute camera angles. They can be explained as Formula, Convention, and Iconography.
Among these, convention refers to the structure or event that can be divided into a second category within a single story. Conventions are events visualized in the film, through which the director communicates with the audience. They have been established in the film assets since the early days of cinema, forming a philosophical unity between the audience and the director. Through repeated viewings of films, the audience acquires an understanding of the conventions presented in the film, and the director conveys their new ideas within that belief. Directors Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro use traditional conventions to communicate with the audience while providing new images and ideas through the twist and turn of those conventions. This study analyzes the movie "Delicatessen" to examine how and where they use the twists and turns of traditional conventions to create a new artistic work.
