    The objective of this research is to overcome the shortcomings found in traditional methods of reading poetry and literary appreciation, and to propose a new approach to reading poetry for active communication by introducing the concept of ¡®the Other¡¯ from Levinas¡¯s philosophy.
    Specifically, the aim is to explore how readers can actively engage in communication through poetry texts and to discover the possibilities for using this in the appreciation of poetry. The focus of this study is on texts within the genre of poetry. In this research, poetry is considered an effective literary text that offers various interpretive possibilities and qualitatively nurtures the reader¡¯s thinking. It approaches the act of reading poetry as a form of active communication rooted in Levinas¡¯s philosophy of ¡®the Other.¡¯ Levinas emphasizes communication that respects the uniqueness of the Other while understanding and responding to their demands. This communication is structured into four stages: ¡®face-to-face,¡¯ ¡®enjoyment,¡¯ ¡®hospitality,¡¯ and ¡®transcendence,¡¯ allowing the subject to move beyond the confines of their pre-existing internal self-identity and gain a new perspective. As a research method, this study analyzed cases of active communication through reading poetry based on Levinas¡¯s philosophy of ¡®the Other¡¯ by examining critical essays written by expert readers. A key finding in the cases of reading poetry by expert readers is that they employ various modes of communication, revealing all aspects of ¡®face-to-face,¡¯ ¡®enjoyment,¡¯ ¡®hospitality,¡¯ and ¡®transcendence¡¯ as proposed by Levinas. Consequently, it can be concluded that a theory of reading poetry that emphasizes communication between the subject and the Other, based on Levinas¡¯s philosophy, aligns with and is realized in the actual experience of reading poetry by readers. Moreover, the modes of communication utilized by expert readers to form new consciousness and perspectives can be applied to the education of poetry reading for learning readers.
