This paper looks into the harm inflicted by neoliberalism from the viewpoint that neoliberalism is a master narrative that absorbs all individual narratives like a black hole. The neoliberalism narrative won people over with a fierce self-development ideology embedded under the surface of sugarcoated meritocracy. This paper emphasizes that, to establish their self-narrative, young people should effectively get away from the myth of completeness (or independence), which is constantly encouraged by the neoliberalism narrative. This myth of completeness produces a dominant moral notion ��dependence=embarrassment,�� and this paper explains that, as long as they continue to believe in this notion, young people will be stuck in the hamster wheel of self-denial and it will be impossible for them to establish their own self-narrative.
Meanwhile, this paper emphasizes that some kind of emotional field(��), where young people can ��experience,�� should be provided first, before they establish their own self-narrative. In Korea, the word ��experience�� has a multi-layered meaning of ��passivity,�� ��hospitality,�� and ��encounter (running into someone).�� From this analysis, this paper demonstrates that it is urgently needed to establish a ��sympathetic field(���Ј�)�� for today��s young people to create their own self-narrative.
