Spinoza saw that we need to understand ourselves and the nature and capabilities of the human mind in order to achieve ultimate full happiness. But because humans are part of nature, we must first understand nature. Spinoza sought to avoid the dichotomous view of human beings and nature by choosing god as a comprehensive amalgamation of man and nature. Spinoza begins the overall planning of Ethics by proving the metaphysical truth about God and nature in Part 1 of Ethics about God. He comes to the amazing conclusion that God and nature are actually one and the same. 'God' and 'nature' are conceptually distinguished, but in reality they are one and the same. So these two concepts, which are equations of God, Nature (Deus sive Natura), are just another way of referring to one being. God, or the ultimate being (or truth), is something that cannot be defined. But nature, the world we experience as a manifestation of God, which is unregulated, is interpreted as a means of explaining God. Spinoza describes the concept of nature with such ambivalent aspects as ¡°Natura naturans; naturing Nature¡± and ¡°Natura naturata; natured Nature.¡± The implications of Spinoza¡¯s ¡®God, Nature¡¯ are compared to buddha-dhatu of late Buddhism (the nature of the Buddha; the mind). In particular, Spinoza's ¡°Natura naturans; naturing Nature¡± and ¡°Natura naturata; natured Nature¡± are very similar to the conceptual framework for the representation of the fundamental meaning of Buddhism that systematizes the mind into one-mind and two-doors in the Mahayana-shraddhotpada-shastra, which represents Mahayana sutras. This paper compares Spinoza's God with the mind of Buddhism from this point of view.
