In this study, the time that rubber shoes flew in a reinforcing stone wall and the meaning of such inflow by reviewing the specific features and manufacturing date of such rubber shoes excavated from a stone pagoda in Iksan Mireuksa Temple Site.
Six pieces of rubber shoes were excavated in the process to disassemble and repair the stone pagoda in Mireuksa Temple Site in 2007. When reviewing the shapes and manufacturing skills of five pieces among them, they were found to be 'rubber economic shoes�� which were popular in Korea late in 1930s rather than Japanese rubber shoes. When reviewing the trademarks shown on the insoles and outsoles of them, they consisted of Gyeongseong Rubber Shoes having ��Manwol�� brand produced in Gunsan since 1932 and of ��Cheon�� brand rubber shoes produced by Cheonil Industry since 1938.
Such reinforcing stone wall was built in 1915 during Japanese colonial era in order to prevent possible collapse of the stone pagoda in Mireuksa Temple Site. The rubber shoes excavated from the stone pagoda in Mireuksa Temple Site might highly flow in the gap between upper parts of the stone pagoda in Mireuksa Temple Site since 1932. The fact that rubber shoes produced in Korea since 1930s were found in the stone pagoda built in 1915 indicates that the stone pagoda was built in 1915 before such rubber shoes were not produced and that the members of the stone pagoda were not repaired since 1932 until around 1950s. That is, not the whole stone pagoda was repaired during Japanese colonial era but a part was repaired at that time.
This study is meaningful in the aspect that the history, which was unavailable since 1915, of repair and improvement of the stone pagoda in Mireuksa Temple Site was reviewed based on historic relics.
