????? ????? ????? ?? ?? (A Research on the Spatial Characteristics of University Library Reading Rooms)

In order to adapt to the rapidly changing information and communication technology of the university library environment, we have attempted to create spatial change through the new construction and renovation of the library. This study has mostly been based on the space syntax theory and serves to quantitatively compare and analyze the spatial characteristics of the library. In order to examine and keep up with the changing characteristics over time, our study selected ten university libraries which were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of libraries that have been opened or partially renovated until the year 2000 and the other group consisted of newly built or fully renovated libraries after the year 2000. According to the plane characteristics, it can be divided into either circular or non¨Ccyclical type.
The results of this study, Firstly, taking into account the time, the newly built and fully renovated groups after 2000 have been found to be more visually accessible and possess a higher cognition for space compared to the groups before 2000, this was in order to provide convenience and accessibility for the students. This is indicative of the diversification era of the 21st century which reveals a change of the university libraries implementation of the function of the reading room from the past. The library is currently a wide, innovative and smooth communication space that caters to the increased diverse requirements of current students. Secondly, according to the spatial characteristics of the plane type, the non-cyclic plane decreases with the depth from the entrance and exit space while with high intelligibility has a higher spatial cognition than the recursive plane. Finally, an open space in the center of the circular plane structure provides a full expansion of the visual range.
