The purpose of this research lies in trying to define shame as a relational disorder and probe the conditions and strategies to cure it. Shame is something that appears when a human being is born and raised in an environment that lacks of essential psychological factors. Psychological factors refer to interest, affection, consolation, encouragement, etc., that an individual needs to grow. The brain of a newborn human baby does not mature enough, and thus they are unable to sufficiently control their bodies, emotions, and cognitions. Therefore, they experience control vicariously through their main nourishers until their bodies, affection, and cognition fully develops and they are able to control themselves. Only after these vicarious experiences can human be able to have full control over themselves and their bodies, emotions, cognition, etc. In self psychology, this is called self-object. Shame in a relational context starts with the problem of a selfobject having to provide ¡°sufficient good care.¡± In a relationship where the nourisher fails to take control over the baby's affection and desires, self becomes fragmented and as a result the individual feels as if he or she is useless and pathetic. Consequentially, they hide because they feel ashamed of their own self and this can be called shame as a disorder. Curing shame as a disorder occurs by meeting a counselor that provides ¡°sufficient good care.¡± People experience the cure of their shame as a disorder by feeling more complete by creating relationships with someone who endorses and consoles their imperfections.
