Focusing on the webtoon Her Simcheong, the thesis discussed the possibility of how a female narrative could exist in the contents using classical novels. Her Tale of Shim Chong is a work that reconstructs the Pansori novel Shim Cheong Jeon into a webtoon. The story begins with the question of ¡°Why did Shim Cheong reject the proposal of the wife of chancellor Jang.¡± The question of the original work was fully presented and the narrative was reconstructed based on this. Therefore, in this paper, the figure of Her Tale of Shim Chong and the female narrative characteristics of the work were reviewed.
First of all, in terms of the figure of a person, Her Tale of Shim Chong overturns the stereotype of Shim Cheong Jeon by proposing Shim Cheong, the wife of chancellor Jang, and Byeong-deok mother as the main characters. Shim Cheong is not a beautiful filial piety girl, but a snarky figure, the wife of chancellor Jang as an upper-class woman who is bound by norms and duties, and a Byeong-deok mother as a helper to help other women by breaking out of the bondage of social norms. The work reveals that although each of these situations is different, they are all suffering the same pain because they are all women. Each class is different, but has a common denominator in that it is subordinate to social norms and duties.
In Her Tale of Shim Chong , the reason why each female character has its own characteristics is because each narrative is given to each woman who has been erased and distorted by the existing ideology. In the work, the process of distorting women through the Shim Cheong Jeon is revealed, overcoming each other's class differences, and allowing women to face the problems of norms and duties that women must face. And they resist the norms demanded by society through understanding and solidarity. And finally, by confronting the dragon king of Indang-su and starting a new life, it announces the beginning of a female narrative against the universal giant narrative.
Such an attempt by Her Tale of Shim Chong can be said to be an example of leading the reader to active reading of the work while drawing interest by transforming the classic narrative we are familiar with. In addition, it is significant in that it opened up a new possibility of ¡®female narrative¡¯ in the contentization of high novels by bringing out the positions of women that have not been revealed so far. These attempts will go beyond popularization of high novels and provide a foundation for recontextualizing high novels in modern times.
