    The purpose of this study is to prepare a plan to use picture books to help foreign students with learning how to write in Korean language. For this, the study has examined the correlation between picture books and Korean language education and the usefulness and educational value of using picture books with focus on the ¡®picture books¡¯ that are commonly used in Korean writing education. The study has also proposed how to use picture books for Korean writing education based on the knowledge of language found in picture books. The findings are as follows. First, it is about explicit acquisition. Picture books are relatively easily accepted by learners in all ages ranging from toddlers to adults regardless of their knowledge of Korean language thanks to the illustrations as well as texts in them. Second, it is about implicit acquisition. Foreign students who seek fun in learning the Korean language are expected to develop and deepen their thinking skills as they are able to coordinate stories using a variety of pictures as well as vocabularies and sentences and to exert their imagination. Ultimately, foreign students are able to develop interest and reduce burdens in learning Korean language and writing in Korean by utilizing picture books. This study is meaningful in that it has cleared doubts about the possibility of picture books successfully serving as a medium to take the Korean writing education forward and the appropriateness of its implementation based on the results discussed above.
