This study was designed to establish a position on Korean classical poetry in the middle school curriculum. The free semester system was adopted to give opportunity for in-depth learning on one subject. With the study materials fromKorean classical poetry class in the free semester at S middle school, the researcher analyzed how learners perceive Korean classical poetry. First, in the genre of ¡®ancient songs¡¯, the direction of re-writing has changed depending on the subject of interest in the content. Second, re-writing was performed in the style of ¡®Hyang-ga¡¯. Third, in the genre of ¡®Goryeo songs¡¯, learners reinterpreted musical elements in the literary sense. The findings of the analysis showed how the learners were interested in Korean classical poetry in education. If the learners are given enough opportunity to learn, it is expected to increase the capacity for acceptance of literary works and this will also help relate them to education in general semesters in the future.
