    The purpose of this study is to develop a model of integrated Chinese reading and writing instruction using a Theme-based approach to improve Chinese learners' reading and writing skills through integrated teaching and learning methods, and to objectively verify its effectiveness and validity. Integrated teaching and learning activities for intermediate Chinese learners using a Theme-based approach were conducted. This experimental class was conducted for 12 weeks with 34 learners, divided into upper and lower groups based on the average of the pre-assessment scores.
    First of all, a preliminary survey was conducted on the basic state of Chinese language learning prior to the class. In order to compare and analyze the differences between the levels of the participating learners, they were divided into 15 upper groups and 19 lower groups.
    We also examined changes in Chinese language learning achievement (reading comprehension, writing) and a affective factors (confidence, interest, and concentration in reading comprehension and writing) before and after the experimental classes. Lastly, a survey was conducted to find out the satisfaction level of the integrated class using the Thema-based approach and the final implications were derived.
