The purpose of this paper is to study discourses on sanctification in The Mustard(1934).
The Mustard, which was published during Japanese Colonialism, contains meaningful guidelines for Christian sanctification. And this journal presented the strict teachings that all Korean Christians should practice biblical sanctification based on the Gospel and noble life of Jesus Christ by doing good works for families, churches, neighbors, society, and nation.
This study is conducted to investigate various discourses on sanctification in The Mustard(1934) and to analyze the basic outline of the main viewpoints such as the theory of sanctification as an internal combustion, the practical efforts in all spheres of life as an external extension, the conservative arguments based on the word of God, and so on. In order to achieve this purpose this study investigates six important works such as ��Area of My Life��(Lee Yu-Taek), ��Christian��s Inner Life��(Yun Eung-Pal), ��Christian Temperance��(Bang Yeol), ��The Life of Following Jesus��(Jeong Am), ��A Deep Sigh��(Kim Jin-Hong), and ��Behavior as A Mirror that Shows Each Mind��(Kim Jin-Hong). The meaningful points the co-authors of this Christian journal left behind us on the basis of their sanctification theory could be summarized as follows: ��spiritual reflection on sanctification ��biblical paradigm for internal faith and external practice ��practical ethics in society ��pious faith and life(life of following Jesus Christ) ��consistency of faith and action & unity of knowledge and action ��emphasis on reformed faith ��recovering Christian spirituality ��Christian��s sound economic perspective ��exemplary life based on the principle of true piety I suggest future extensions of this research into other thoughts such as ��viewpoint of Christian ethics��, ��monotheism and shinto shrine��, ��viewpoint of Christian education��, ��Christian culture��, ��methodology of piety training and education��, ��Christian vocational ethics��, and so forth.
