    The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of paternal competence on young childrenโ€™s flourishing in an effort to determine the importance of paternal competence and provide information on how to bolster the flourishing of preschoolers. The subjects in this study were 185 fathers and 185 children; the children were at the western ages of four and five and attended kindergartens and daycare centers in the city of Busan.
    Instruments that covered paternal competence and preschooler flourishing were used to gather data. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, the fathers were best at self-determination among the subfactors of parental competence, and the preschoolers were most excellent in personal strengths among the subfactors of flourishing. Second, when the relationship between the paternal competence of the fathers and the flourishing of the young children was analyzed, paternal competence was positively related with the flourishing of the preschoolers, and the developmental parenting skills of the fathers had no significant relationship with the young childrenโ€™s personal strengths and emotional happiness. Third, how the paternal competence of the fathers affected the flourishing of the preschoolers was analyzed. As a result, personal strengths that were one of the subfactors of flourishing were under the positive influence of the roles and contribution skills of the fathers as members of society and positive parenting skills. Positive parenting skills also exercised a positive influence on the emotional happiness of the preschoolers. The positive communication of the preschoolers was positively affected by the roles and contribution skills of the fathers as members of society, and the former's knowing strengths was under the positive influence of the roles and contribution skills of the latter as members of society and positive parenting skills. Finally, resilience had no statistically significant impact on every variable.
