This study set out to examine the meaning, focusing on the fact that some descendents of Cheon Ryeong Hyeon family, who were accredited to Whae Gwan(�|�R���^) as Yeok-Gwan(Official Interpreters), moved to Miryang, not Hanyang(�h�, the seoul city), which had been a place most official interpreters liked to live and be active. Correlation with another Chungin(����) family, who introduced Catholicism is also underlined in this study. This is because the introduction of Catholicism is one of important issues in Korean Catholic Church. Cheon Ryeong Hyeon family is well known as family which had produced many of Chungin Yeok-Gwan. Moreover, worthy members, contributed to the advancement of Korean Catholic Church after the 19th century, belonged to this family. This study casts a long shadow dealing with the differentiation of Cheon Ryeong Hyeon family, on the level of local community, not on the central community. It also pay attention to the network among relatives through Catholicism. It can explains why another relatives migrate and settle down in local area. Therefore I expect this study contribute to reveal correlation of the structure of kin groups with the introduction and development of Catholicism in Korea.
Some people of Cheon Ryeong Hyeon family, lived in Dongnae, later immigrated to Miryang, were descendents of Hyeon Deok-Yoon(����), who was strongly mentioned as an official interpreter for Japanese. They were Hyeon Sang-Jung(���̵�)'s descendents with his second wife. Hyeon Sang-Jung was grandson of Hyeon Deok-Yoon, and he married a woman who was a member of Ko Ryeong Shin(���` ����)'s family. Considering her local background from Hangyang, not Dongnae, her family was assumed to be even with his husband in social position, living in Hangyang. She may have come to Dongnae, as his husband, Hyeon Sang-Jung, started to serve in Dongnae as an interpreter. But she and her descendents didn't return to Hanyang after completion of her husband's work in Dongnae, and rather moved to Miryang. This is an extraordinary example. Because previous studies on Chungin have paid little attention to the pattern of hereditary succession of people who were out of center, instead focused on Technocrats(���g��). And that's where this study brings to focus on social differentiation of these marginal groups. Their choice to settle on Miryang where the descendents of his family had lived after Kim Beom-Woo(����)'s death due to the Catholic Faith is remarkable. It shows not only the network among Chungin family through occupation and marriage but also their vivid life in local area, especially served in Dongnae, with details.
