How can those who cannot appear in the public realm have the lives? What does it mean to be not able to appear in the public realm? How is it possible to reveal the lives of the displaced persons including oneself even in the situation of the exclusion and exile? This thesis aims to answer these questions, which reinterprets Hannah Arendt¡¯s concept of politics as ¡°the politics of the pariah¡± by analyzing her discussion on the concept of pariah. Fisrt, I examine the meaning of ¡°being invisible¡± in the public realm by focusing on ¡°the discrimination¡±. This considers thoroughly Arendt¡¯s concepts of the pariah and the parvenu. The two concepts are reinterpreted as the same old signs of the social discrimination which remains ceaselessly to this day. In the second place, I interpret four figurations of the pariah which Arendt examined in ¡¸The Jew as Pariah: A Hidden Tradition¡¹ as four ways to resist the discrimination. These figures reveal the political experience of the Jewish pariah which is eliminated or overlooked in the history. Consequently, in this context of ¡®revelation of those who are invisible¡¯ and ¡®rewriting history of people without history¡¯, on the basis of Arendt¡¯s concept of political action of ¡°appearance¡± and ¡°beginning¡±, I reinterpret her concept of politics as ¡°the politics of the pariah¡±.
