The subject of this study was ��Seongjaejib��, a 17th-century literature written by Shin Eung-soon(1572-1636). The purpose of the thesis was to analyze his wife's death ritual, food, and its inherent characteristics. The major results can be summarized as follows: First, in the seventeenth century, academic research on rituals progressed, and the work of writing books on rituals containing the views of many scholars, social customs, and experiences of researchers was in earnest. Shin Eung-sun also recorded the funeral rite for his wife based on his research and experience. Second, the death of the wife of Shin Eung-soon, Yeongnam-gun, Jeollanam-do, in May 1615 was a case where the mother died while the father survived to the children. The children then performed rituals for their mother for one year, and for the next two years they mourned and missed their mother in their hearts. Third, the food for the deceased accompanying the rituals was regarded as courtesy such as serving the living in preparation and table setting. Tea was served as a food for mourners, its value was mentioned as food that could keep frugality and perform politeness with sorrow. In conclusion,��Seongjaejib��showed the reality of rites and foods that Shin Eung-soon experienced and recorded at his wife's funeral. These represented a culture that reflected the implementation of normative guidelines oriented to society at that time, the application of ritual theories he explored in depth as a scholar, the practice of coexistence of affection and courtesy towards his wife, and the flexibility of the situation.
