This study examined the records of King Sejong's learning of music throughout his life. Sejong's reading habits in his childhood and his tempting reading of books on music during ascension led Sejong to prepare an Aak(ÑŘ·) and achieve the task of creating Sinak(И·) in his late reign.
King Sejong had enough performance skills to teach his older brother Yangnyeong Geumseul(ÇÙɪ) when he was in Prince Chungnyeong. King Sejong realized through the ¡ºYulryeosinseo(ÂÉ…ÎЕø)¡» that the length of the Hwangjongyulgwan (üSæRÂɹÜ) was not consistent with China, that it was impossible to make the appropriate Hwangjongyulgwan in Korea, that it was not appropriate to use an Aak(ÑŘ·) as Korea's ritual music, and that China also didn¡¯t have an Aak(ÑŘ·) as it was.
In brief, with the training on music and learning of ¡ºYulryeosinseo¡», King Sejong felt the need to create music suitable for Korea's climate and natural characteristics. This awareness became the driving force behind King Sejong's creation of Sinak(И·) in his late reign. King Sejong created Sinak as a way to edify his people with music, so his learning of music has an educational meaning.
