This paper explores the historical meaning of "Korean literary history" of An Hwak . He was partially inherit the literary theory of Lee Kwang-su and nationalistic view of Shin Che-ho. However, for different reasons, Shin Che-ho and Lee Kwang-su had not unearthed history in the Chosun Dynasty. On the contrary, An Hwak showed acceptance of foreign civilization. However, he was convinced of the existence of ethnic spirit to overcome this. So he was able to narrative the overall history of the Korea. His literary history revealed a spirual meaning of commoner literature of the late Chosun. It shows the composition of ethnic literary history that comes out after that. This indicates ethnic literary narrative to assure the development aspects of the national spirit has sprouting and autochthonic origin before institutional(academic) knowledge appeared.????
