동성애왿� AI의 모티프로서의 앨런 튜링의 이미테이션 게임 (Alan Turing’s Imitation Game as the Motif of Homosexuality and Artificial Intelligence)

‘동성애왿� AI’라는 다소 생경한 표현과 주제에 접근함에 있어서 앨런 튜링(Alan Mathison Turing, 1912-1954)보다 더 좋은 인물은 없을 것이다. 튜링은 일반인들에게는 ‘2차 세계대전을 종식시킨 천재 수학자’로 기억되는 반면, 공학인들과 기술전문가들에게는 ‘인공짿�능의 아버지’ 또는 ‘컴퓨터의 창시자’라고도 불린다. 튜링이 가지고 있는 세 종류의 별명 뒤에는 모두, ‘그의 영웅적 삶에도 불구하고 단지 동성애자라는 이유만으로 비극을 맞게 된 비운의 천재’라는 복선이 깔려 있다. 다시 말해서, 세상을 바꾼 아인슈타인이나 뉴턴 정도로 엄청난 사람이었지만, 동성애 하나 때문에 (그리고 그로인한 불합당한 영국 정부의 탄압 때문에) 일찍 생을 마감했으며, 세상도 그의 업적에 합당한 기념을 하고 있지 않다는 말이다.
하지만 그의 삶과 죽음에 있어서, 동성애적 성향과 기계에 대한 애착과 업적이 매우 두드러짐에도 불구하고, 그의 동성애 성향과 튜링 머신 그리고 그의 죽음을 연관시켜 일관된 관점으로 해석하는 연구는 아직 찾아보지 못했다. 즉, 튜링의 동성애적 성향과 맞엮여(interwoven) 있는 그의 에니그마(Enigma) 해독기(봄브, Bombe) 제작, 그리고 그의 죽음에 대해서는 아직까지 한 번도 제대로 다루어지지 않았다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 따라서, 본 소고는 튜링에게 있어서 기계왿� 동성애가 서로 뗄 수 없는 관계였으며, 이것이 그의 죽음과도 밀접한 연관이 있었다는 것을 보이고자 할 것이다. 그렇게 함으로써, 그 시작 단계부터 깊은 관련이 있었던 기계(컴퓨터)왿� 동성애는 다가올 미래에도 반드시 결부될 수밖에 없는 사회적 종교적 문제임을 지적할 것이다.
이를 위해 먼저 튜링의 동성애자로서의 삶을 통한 이미테이션 게임을 다룬다. 그런 다음, 이러한 튜링의 동성애적 성향과 그의 연인의 죽음이 동기부여가 되어 ‘자의식이 있는 기계 개발’에 자신의 비전을 투사(inscribing)하게 하였으며 그 핵심이론으로 이미테이션 게임을 그가 제시했음을 밝힌다. 그런 다음, 튜링의 죽음 또한 그의 이미테이션 게임의 연장선상에 있음을 제시한다. 마지막으로, 개혁주의 이미테이션 게임은 그리스도의 형상을 모방함을 통해서만 이루어짐을 보인다. 글을 마무리 하며, 모방이라는 것은 단순한 행위적 복제나 의태왿�는 다르며, 모방의 원형과 모방자가 밀접한 인격적 관계가 있을 때에만 가능하기 때문에, 창조물인 AI는 인간의 쾌락이나 자기만족을 위해서가 아닌 하나님의 영광을 위해서 사용되어야 하는 창조 질서의 본래 목적대로 쓰임 받아야 함을 주장한다. 이를 통해, 본 연구는 동성애왿� 인공짿�능을 다루면서, 이 둘은 아주 밀접한 관계가 있으며, 이 둘의 모티프가 바로 앨런 튜링 이미테이션 게임이라는 것을 주장한다.

In the engagement of the somewhat anomalous diction and theme of “homosexuality and artificial intelligence,” there would not be a better person than Alan Mathison Turing(1912-1954). While he is remembered as “the genius mathematician who ended the World War II” to lay people, he is commemorated as “the father of AI” or “the inventor of computer” to engineers and technologists. Behind the curtain of these three nick names, an underplot is laid that “just because of his being gay, the unlucky genius had to accept the tragic death in spite of his heroic life.” In other words, although Turing is a great person who could be compared to only a few such as Einstein and Newton who changed the trajectory of the world, only due to his being gay, he had been persecuted by the British government. And that closed his life earlier, and the world is not commemorating his legacy as much as he deserves.
However, despite his life and death, and his legacy and love for homosexuality and machine, it is not found yet that interprets him with consistency by concatenating his homosexuality and Turing machine including his life and death. Thus, it is not exaggerating that the interwoven theme of his homosexuality with his invention of the Enigma interpreter, Bombe, and his death has never been thoroughly dealt by any one so far. Therefore, this article shows that homosexuality and machine can not be separated from each other for Turing, and this also has relevant clue to his death. By doing so, it is indicated that the close relationship, between homosexuality and machine(or computer), which initiated from the beginning of AI shall be unavoidable even in the forthcoming future.
To do this, the imitation game throughout Turing’s homosexual life is firstly dealt. And then, it is observed that Turing’s homosexuality and his lover’s death motivated him to inscribe his vision both by “inventing a machine which has artificial consciousness,” and by suggesting imitation game as the principle theory for it. And after that, it is shown that his death is on an extension of his imitation game. Lastly, it is shown that reformed imitation game can be only achieved by imitating the image of Christ. In breaking off the engagement, it is argued that imitation is totally different with mere “behavior replication” or “mimicry” and is only feasible when there is a close personal relationship between the original behavior agent and the imitator. It is why AI as an invention is not to be used for human pleasure or self-satisfaction but to be used according as its nature of creation which is to glorify God the creator. By doing so, this research argues that homosexuality and AI are in close unavoidable relationship and Alan Turing’s imitation game is the motif of both.
