Status and Prospects of Korean Language in India

This paper examines the present status of Korean language education in India and provides suggestions for improvement. In India, Korean language education is witnessing a new dawn with the surge of interest in Hallyu and employment opportunities. This trend is reflected in the increase in the number of learners and institutions, further bolstered by the Indian Government¡¯s National Education Policy 2020 that includes Korean as a second language in India. Exploring the various Korean language courses offered in India¡¯s different institutions, the paper argues that the quality of Korean language education in India should be upgraded to maintain a balance with the quantitative growth, thereby ensuring stable and continued development. The paper especially stresses the importance of ensuring qualified Korean language teachers in India, establishing a standard curriculum, and conducting research betweenteachers and scholars to further advance Korean language education in India.
