    Abstract
    The goal of this design challenge is to apply the theoretical concepts of distillation, abnormal stages, and reflux ratios learned in the separation process lecture through ASPEN PLUS to distill 99% of HFP. I have experienced many errors in applying various thermal decomposition equations and methods over a week. I also tried C3HF7-> C3F6 + HF equations and tried distillation from the beginning using TFE, HFP and Peng-Robinson equations. After numerous trials and errors, we found that thermal decomposition of R23 and TFE produced HFP and HF, and we started the process design using the equation C2F4 + CHF3-> C3F6 + HF. Based on Aspen Plus Physical Property Methods & Models Version, Wilson-HF modified for HF was used in consideration of HF with hydrogen bonding. This equation has the advantage of reliably predicting the HF effects of the solution.
