    1.0 Introduction

As world is globalising, most corporations do not run only their business nationwide, but also they are extending their business world wide. They have to interact, manage, negotiate and compromise with people from other countries. However, some corporations just open business and keep their way of manage without being concerned about cultural differences. For this reason, some of these corporations have failed in other countries. โ€œIgnoring or misunderstanding differences can mean inability to retain and motivate employees, misreading the potential of cross-border alliances, marketing and advertising blunders, and failure to build sustainable sources of competitive advantage.โ€ โ€œMismanaging cultural differences can render otherwise successful managers and organizations ineffective and frustrated when working across cultures.โ€ (Hoecklin, 1994) This is due to not enough knowledge of other countriesโ€™ culture. They just think they should succeed in other countries as well as in their own countries with same management method.

However, it is very difficult to define one countryโ€™s culture, because the culture is โ€œthe collective mental programming of the people in an environment. Culture is not a characteristic of individuals, it encompasses a number of people who were conditioned by the same education and life experience.โ€ (Hofstede 1997, p224) For this reason, it is a very abstract and inclusive concept.
