Emma was beautiful and clever. She liked making a match between a man and a woman. She made the match between Mr. Weston and Miss Taylor who was a tutor and friend, and she thought it was successful and he had another idea.
Harriet was a friend of hers. She was pretty but she had no living family. Martin, a farmer asked her Harriet to marry him, but Emma thought Elton a vicar was more suitable for Harriet than Martin. So Emma told Harriet that she should refused him.
Knightley, Emma`s best friend came to know the fact and he got angry. He told Emma that Elton would look for money and good family in wife.
?Chapter 2 A second Offer
Harriet was making herself a little book of poems. One day, Emma told Elton about it and then she said that Elton could write something for Harriet¡¯s book. Elton replied he was sure he couldn¡¯t it, but he left a paper with a short poem written on it the next day. Emma knew it was for Harriet and Harriet was delighted with it. So Emma was sure Elton loved Harriet.
The next day, Emma visited a poor sick family in the village with Harriet. On ?their way home, they met Elton. Emma hoped that Elton asked Harriet to marry him, so she tried to make a chance for him to say, but Elton didn¡¯t asked.
