Celebrating Ethan's big moments: Beloved Louisville rescue dog marks 1 year since his rescue
Saturday is a big day for a beloved rescue dog in Louisville.
This time last year we first heard about a dog that was found clinging to life in the parking lot of the Kentucky Humane Society. That dog became known as Ethan, and we've been following his journey since.
Ethan has been through quite a lot in a year. On Saturday, he's having a "Found Ya Day" party at PG&J's Dog Park Bar in Louisville.

In honor of how far he's come and all the work he's doing now advocating for rescue dogs, we're taking a look back at Ethan's journey.
Remember when Ethan was first found? He was all skin and bones!
According to KHS, he had no muscles and had to learn to walk again. He only had a 50 percent chance of surviving when he was first found.
"Look to your local animal shelter because between Kentucky Humane Society and shelters in other regions, there are literally thousands of animals who will need help this year," said Andrea Blair with KHS. "They may not be named Ethan and they may not have his story but they're just as deserving as love and kindness as he is."
After some hard work and dedication, Ethan began improving
He was still emaciated but you can see in this video Ethan getting the hang of walking again. That was huge progress for the dog after not even being able to lift his head.
Then, he got a big appetite
With the help of the KHS staff, Ethan was able to pack on some pounds. Because of his condition, he needed feedings every few hours. But you can read more here about his big appetite!
Remember when he spent his first night out of the shelter?
Once Ethan was healthy enough, he was able to spend his first night out of the shelter with staff member Jeff (who ended up adopting him later on). Ethan would then start spending the day at the shelter and the evenings with Jeff.
You can tell in this photo, he was living the good life.
Ethan loves to learn tricks!

He had a DNA test done!
Many wondered what kind of dog Ethan was and the KHS decided to do a DNA test. It revealed that Ethan was a mix of six different breeds: Presa Canario, Mastiff, Argentine Dogo, Bull Dog, Cane Corso, American Staffordshire Terrier. Wow!
Did you know Ethan was rescued by an 11-year-old boy?
The organization shared Tatum and his family's story of finding Ethan on their Facebook page:
"After they dropped off their donations, they saw what they thought was a dead dog in our parking lot lying on a white towel. They stopped their vehicle and jumped out of the car. They called the adoption desk and waited outside with Ethan until our staff came out and rushed him to our veterinary ward. Their 11-year-old son, Tatum, was understandably very upset to see a dog in such a horrific condition."
You can read about the reunion here.
And this brings us to his adoption
From severely emaciated to happy-go-lucky, those following Ethan's journey know just how much he went through to get to this point. In March, the KHS announced that Ethan would head to his forever home with Jeff.
"There was just something about him and his story when he got dropped off that just touched me," Jeff said. "I wanted to be sure I could do anything I could for him."
Despite what he's been through, Jeff said Ethan loves people and animals.
"To be starved like he was, you know, he didn't have any food or water for and he was obviously in a kennel where he couldn't get up and move around," Callaway said. "He has no food aggression, he has no dog aggression, has no people aggression. He's just a lovable, laid back, very sweet personality."
Ambassador of Compassion
For all the good he did, the Kentucky Humane Society partnered with Kentucky Derby Festival, the Mayor's Give a Day and Feeders Supply to name Ethan "Ambassador of Compassion."
As Ethan's story reached more people, he helped pull in a lot of money for the humane society to help not just himself, but many other animals in need.
The honor and title also netted Ethan a few gifts here and there.

Visiting his friends at the Kentucky Humane Society
While enjoying his new life at his fur-ever home, Ethan enjoys giving back and visiting his old home at the Kentucky Humane Society.
Humane society officials say it's Ethan's way of paying it forward.
"Ethan is so sweet with our injured and ill pets," KHS said in a tweet.
Ethan lands a job
In case you missed it, Ethan also has a job.
Over the summer, Busch beer chose Ethan as its top dog for its Busch Dog Brew. The alcohol-free, bone broth brew gives owners the chance to crack a cold one with their favorite furry companion.
As chief tasting officer, Ethan will help lead the expansion of Dog Brew's flavor portfolio. The position comes with a $20,000 salary, dog-friendly perks including health care coverage, and company stock options.
Meeting a fellow survivor and new best friend
Earlier this year, Ethan connected with another Kentucky Humane Society rescue who had an identical story as he did last year.
Travolta, a small dog that was found severely emaciated and taken to the Kentucky Humane Society, was also on the brink of death.
After overcoming some of his initial challenges, Travolta moved began his road to recovery, and that included a visit from Ethan.
The two hit it off and have been hanging out here and there. They're also working together at Busch!
Ahead of Ethan's special day Saturday, Travolta joined him for a photo shoot.
Message from his fur-ever owner
What a remarkable journey Ethan has been on in a year. You can see all the great moments we've shared with Ethan in the posts above.
Here's a message from the man now taking care of Ethan day in and day out.
"If you've followed my posts you know I like to celebrate on anniversary dates but generally reflect and think back the day before those. So today is a day for looking back. Thanks to every single one of you for supporting Ethan, KHS and our family!"
