Coroner identifies 43-year-old shot by off-duty officer in Jeffersontown
A coroner has released the name of a man shot to death by an off-duty officer in Jeffersontown.
The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon on Robsion Drive.
Chief Rick Sanders said several people in that area called police and reported that someone was going up and down the road, knocking out windows and "acting strange."
An off-duty officer in street clothes who lives in the area responded to the call. Sanders said the officer confronted the person, who has now been identified as 43-year-old Marco Dorsey.
Then, at some point, the officer fired. According to the coroner's report, he was hit by multiple gunshots.
Police have not yet provided further details about the confrontation.
"I don't know, it's too early, really, to get into all that. But when we get it, we'll release it," Sanders said on Tuesday.
It's also unclear whether Dorsey was armed.
The officer was not injured, Sanders said. He is a former Louisville Metro Police officer. Sanders said he was not wearing a body-worn camera, as he was in plain clothes at the time.
His name has not yet been released.
There is believed to be surveillance video of the incident.
Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting.
