Shooting near Dairy Kastle: Mother, witness say stranger killed victim 'out of nowhere'
The man killed near Louisville's Dairy Kastle had never met his assailant and had barely even interacted with the suspect before the shooting, according to interviews with a witness and the victim's mother.
"It doesn't make sense," said Kristie Hillard, mother of Jordan Wells. "I just don't understand how someone could be so evil to shoot someone they don't know, for no reason."
Police say Wells was shot by Demetrius Johnson, who is now charged with murder and being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $1 million bond.
Wells, 23, was walking back to his home in Germantown around 5:30 p.m. March 30 맥스카지노 the evening before Easter, his mother said.
It was a pleasant spring evening, and about 20-30 people were at the Dairy Kastle at Eastern Parkway and Bradley Avenue, a witness told 비바카지노 Viva News.
But across the street, Johnson was yelling as if in an argument with someone, even though he was alone and did not appear to be on the phone, the witness said.
Wells was walking by when Johnson turned to him, yelled, "What are you looking at?" and then pulled out a gun and shot Wells, the witness recalled.
Moments later, Johnson ran off and stunned bystanders rushed to Wells aid. He died on April 20 from his injuries.
"We're so grateful to God for that opportunity because we were able to tell him how much we love him, how proud we are of him, how strong he is, what a fighter (he is)," Hillard said.
Wells was a South Oldham High School graduate who enjoyed wrestling in high school and continued to stay active, running two mini-marathons and frequently going for walks in the neighborhood, Hillard said.
He loved animals, enjoyed fishing and worked at G.E. Appliances, she said.
"He's just the best son you could ever have and the best big brother," Hillard said. "Just kind, strong, driven."
When police finally located Johnson on April 29, they found 41 grams of methamphetamine and a stolen gun on him, according to his arrest citation.
In addition to being charged with Wells' murder, he was also charged with domestic violence and strangulation in the first degree in connection with a separate incident with a former girlfriend that took place on April 9, according to court records.
Johnson's criminal history includes prior domestic violence and wanton endangerment convictions.
