UofL basketball only playing 18 conference games as part of ACC changes
Changes are coming to the Atlantic Coastal Conference this season that'll see basketball teams playing fewer conference games.
ACC officials announced on Wednesday that teams would only play 18 conference games starting with the 2025-25 season. This is a departure from the 20 conference game schedule teams have been privy to since the start of the 2020-21 season.
"The decision to return to an 18-game conference schedule comes after continued strategic assessment, during which the conference office collaborated with athletics directors, coaches, external consultants and television partners," ACC officials said in a statement. "This included working with multiple experts to conduct statistical analysis to examine the conference맥스카지노s basketball product, metrics and scheduling."
There will be "primary partners" as part of this change, which are pairings of teams that will play each other at home and away. There will be a variable partner, which will follow the same guideline of a home and away game.
The University of Louisville's primary partner will be SMU.
Louisville's full ACC schedule will be released at a later date.
UofL will open the regular season on Nov. 11 against in-state rival Kentucky at the KFC Yum! Center.
