Ethan the dog goes to Frankfort to support tougher penalties for animal torture
Louisville's beloved furry friend Ethan the dog went to Frankfort on Wednesday to support tougher penalties for animal torture.
Louisville Republican Susan Tyler Witten sponsored . It would make the torture of dogs and cats a class D felony.
Ethan and his owner, Jeff Callaway, were there to support that bill.
When Ethan was adopted, he was severely emaciated from neglect.
"Ethan was in such a state of dehydration, he weighed a mere 38 pounds when he should have been closer to 90," Callaway said.

And Callaway says MRI scans showed he had been severely beaten.
"And then there's the abuse that he endured. When conducting an MRI scan of his brain to determine the cause of seizures, it was also noted that Ethan had blunt force trauma to his brain caused from being hit in the head," Callaway recalled.
Witten wants to see people who commit acts like that face more consequences.
"This bill comes from the need to separate intentional torture and gross neglect from simply ignorant pet ownership skills," she said.
Callaway said people who abuse animals often go on to commit violence against people.
"More likely, it맥스카지노s a person, a child, a partner or a spouse," he said during the bill hearing.

HB 258 passed out of committee Wednesday morning and is headed to the House floor for a vote.
If it becomes law as it is now, it would change the penalty from a max of 12 months in jail to a range of one to five years.
